Supergirl Recap 1×20

This week’s Supergirl was the season finale and it was pretty underwhelming. I feel like the writers wrote this episode unsure of whether or not they were going to be renewed so this episode could also pass as the series finale, if you decide that you don’t like awesome things and stop watching the show, then I suppose you’re all set.

We started where the last episode left off with Kara being challenged by Alex (controlled by Non) to a fight to the death. It lasts approximately one minute before Hank flies momma Danvers in and she shuts it down. She also proves that you can basically inspirationally talk people out of being mind-controlled, which kind of destroys the stakes of the last episode, and what I thought would be the main issue of the finale.

With Cat and Malcom’s help, Supergirl gives an old school inspiring broadcast where she convinces the citizens of National City to snap out of it because hope solves anything (insert eye roll).  This seems like the kind of move you put at the end of an episode, kind of like a last ditch effort, but that’s not the case so I digress.

In the midst of failure, Indigo and Non decide to kill all the humans on Earth and bounce because, why not?

Kara and James try to have a reveal my feelings talk and it gets thwarted by life and an impatient Cat.

Lucy gets in a fight with her ain’t shit dad because he decided (on whose authority we’ll never know) that Hank needs to be arrested again even though he just saved the city. Alex let’s her mom know that her dad is still alive.

Max finds out that Non and Indigo are planning to increase the frequency in myriad to utilize the electromagnetic energy to kill everyone (I wonder how much science is behind this?). And that basically they only have four hours to live.

Kara says her lo-key I love yous goodbyes, which is immediately detected by Cat and also includes preemptively breaking up with James who she never went out with. Supergirl and Martian Manhunter suit up and beat Non and Indigo, but the only way Kara can stop the destruction of mankind is if she flies Fort Roz (where Myriad is being powered) out of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Kara says a tearful goodbye to Alex and saves the earth, unfortunately the consequence is that she must drift through space, or at least that’s what she believes. Alex somehow manages to figure out how to fly Kara’s space pod (the one that brought her to earth) and saves her.

Jon gets a pardon from the president and is allowed to have his job back for saving the earth for like the 3rd time (because apparently black people really do have to be twice as good).

Kara finally gets a promotion, into an office that my mother was quick to point out has no windows, but a promotion is a promotion people and she gets to design her own job so, whatever. Kara and James finally kiss (with both of them conscious) but have yet to define their relationship. And everything seems all good for team Supergirl until… a bright light shoots across the sky! It’s another Kryptonian space pod. Kara rips it open and sees… well we don’t know, because that’s how the season ends.

How did Alex figure out how to fly the pod?

Are Alex and Max going to become a thing? Can they not?

Do you think Jara is actually going to happen? Or are they going to keep playing with my heart strings?
